let's forget the current chaotic state of the world (real and virtual) for a sec and talk about something that sparks joy to us all! :D
soooo, as the title say, i'm curious what usually lures you into reading a book, this time specifically in fiction? pretty covers and favorite authors aside.
i'll go first! most of the times, it's a sentence. i'm a person who's easily get quotebaited. someone will post a sentence from their fav book, their own book, or their wip and i will go OH I MUST BUY IT AND READ IT. this happens quite a lot, for example:
Kak Norman posted some sneak peeks from his now-published short stories collection, Cerita-cerita Bahagia, Hampir Seluruhnya. One of the lines go like this: "Hobi membaca ternyata bukan alasan kuat untuk terus bersama ya". I immediately placed a preorder and managed to get the book and cry early than everyone else who didn't preorder the book (yes this is a sign for you to do preorders. preorder those books now). It's from the story Panduan Menyintas Patah Hati Bagi Penyair Muda, which is my favorite alongside Divisi Doa Tak Berjawab and Ad maiorem dei gloriam.
A friend of mine posted a screenshot in their reading reaction thread which has "There was a time when I thought you were kind." / "Do you want to know a secret? I try, sometimes. For you. I don't think I'm good at it." from The Heartless Divine by Varsha Ravi. I opened up a digital bank account the next day so I can purchase that book from Kindle (it wasn't available in Playbooks/Scribd then, it does now)
A quotebot posted "I'm a vessel of memories", which is a line from Calling a Wolf, a Wolf by Kahveh Akbar. I also purchased that one, my favorite poetry collection of the year btw.
ok this is too long for an opening for a question but... yeah that's what usually makes me want to read a book. so please, drop your fav quotes from your favorite books too! quotebait me! anyway, i'm currently reading Never Have I Ever by Isabel Yap, just started though so i can't really say much about it. what's yours? :]
Aku tim baca blurb dan rekomendasi dari beberapa teman yang genre bacaannya mirip denganku 🙈
Tapi jujurly, aku seringnya lebih karena rekomendasi teman aja atau karena hype di timeline medsos.
Kalau aku cari-cari bacaan sendiri, baru deh tim baca blurb dulu hihihi
Still the synopsis (more than blurb). Or title. Bought Macaulay's Told by an Idiot because the title's.... Told by an Idiot. Now she's one of my favouritest authors! Good title is a good indicator on how the narration could be, methinks? Like, "Why Aren't You In School" sounds witty and sarcastic from the beginning, "Eight Cousins" feels warm and noisy, and "Touch" is very alienating.
Of course the could be ⚡️traps⚡️
